Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel

Set on the banks of the Irwell river in the centre of Manchester opposite Granada TV studios, the Marriott Victoria & Albert was built in 1844 and renovated, at a cost of £5 million, in 2005. It has 148 rooms set out over four floors.

The closest train station connected to Old Trafford is Deansgate station, a 10 minute walk or so. From here you can get the train to Manchester United station. The closest metrolink station to Old Trafford is Pomona, which can be travelled to from GMEX station, next to Deansgate. Comprehensive driving directions from across the UK can be found on the website.

Every characterful room is en-suite and comes with a work desk, telephone, tea- and coffee-making facilities, mini-bar, hair dryer and ironing facilities. There is also a flat-screen TV and internet access (though the latter is charged). The windows are soundproofed.

There is a bar, offering light bites and drinks as well as lunch and dinner, and a restaurant, which does breakfast and dinner. There is little in the way of leisure facilities on-site, but guests can use a local gym.

Guest review

Several guests praised the general quality of the rooms and the excellent service. Some complained about the price of breakfast and baulked at the car park charge of £14 a day. Overall, the hotel averages a score of 8.6/10 based on cleanliness, comfort, location, services, staff and value for money.
