Cornerstones Guesthouse

The Cornerstones Guesthouse is located in Sale, in the south-west outskirts of Manchester, and is run by Dorothy and Tony Casey, who set the place up 25 years ago.

Thankfully, Sale is served by Manchester’s Metrolink tram system. The closest stop to Cornerstones Guesthouse is Brooklands, five minutes’ walk from the B&B, from where it is only 12 minutes into the centre of Manchester. To get to Old Trafford, change at Cornbrook for Pomona. You can also catch a bus to the centre, which stops just outside the guesthouse door. Numbers 263 and 264 operate half hourly services. Manchester Airport is 15 minutes away by taxi. It can also be travelled to by public transport from both Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly.

There are nine rooms at the hotel: two standard singles, an en-suite single, an en-suite twin and five en-suite doubles. All rooms come with a TV (three have DVD players too), “vanity unit” and tea- and coffee-making facilities. The decor is different in all the rooms (some have handsome period features and bay windows), but they are all cosy and homely.

Monday to Thursday, expect a complimentary continental breakfast; at the weekend, it’s a full English. There are no facilities as such as the B&B (it is just that, after all), but there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in Sale.

Guest review

A lot of guests remarked that although the guesthouse is on a fairly busy road, it is nonetheless quiet and very comfortable. Light sleepers are encouraged to book rooms at the back of the house, however. The personal service, according to most guests, is second to none.  Overall, the B&B averaged a score of 9.8/10 based on cleanliness, comfort, location, services, staff and value for money.
